Saxenda® is a daily self-administered medication that is like a natural hormone that is released in the body just after eating. It triggers areas in your brain that control appetite, making you feel fuller & more satisfied and less hungry
It should be used by adult patients between the ages of 18 & 75 with a body mass index of over 30 and an excess weight who are struggling with their weight problems.
It can help people lose weight and keep it off by reducing their calorie intake and increasing their physical activity. It can also be used in combination with a healthy diet and regular exercise.
Although this medication can help people lose weight, it can also cause side effects. It’s important to regularly check-in with your practitioner to make sure that the medication is working properly.
Saxenda® is a type of liraglutide prescription injection that is available for qualifying patients through authorised practitioner specialists.
Saxenda® works to help patients lose weight and keep it off by helping to regulate the body’s natural feelings of being hungry and full. It mimics the body’s naturally produced hormone glucagon-like-peptide (GLP-1) that is used to help regulate the feelings of hunger people experience, and control blood sugar and digestion.
This in turn causes patients using Saxenda® to eat fewer calories, which leads to weight loss.
Everyone’s weight is unique to them, and their weight loss results will be just as unique. Weight loss is dependent on several factors and the same is true for patients who use Saxenda® injections to assist them on their weight loss journey.
Your weight management specialist can help you understand how much weight is reasonable to lose for you based on your age, height, current weight, overall health, physical activity level, eating habits, stress levels and sleep habits.
All of these, plus many other factors, contribute to a person’s overall weight and will impact their ability to lose weight. Along with Saxenda®, patients should be following a healthy, nutritious, reduced calorie diet and increase their physical activity level.
Each session takes 30 minutes and every client will have a minimum of 6 treatments. We usually recommend that all 6 treatments be completed over the space of 2 weeks, but recognise that if you have your period midway through treatment, a pause will be necessary that won’t undermine the effectiveness of the course.
