WHAT IS URINARY INCONTINENCE?

Urinary incontinence is a common condition which occurs when your pelvic floor muscle is weakened. For many women this occurs after having children or when we reach the menopause, and for others it is a natural part of the ageing process. At Epsom Skin Clinics we offer state-of-the-art Emsella Pelvic Floor Therapy, which uses electromagnetic energy to strengthen your pelvic floor muscle through powerful, repeated contractions during treatment.

PELVIC FLOOR MUSCLE

The dome-shaped pelvic muscle supports the pelvic organs – the bladder, bowel, and for women, the womb. The weakening of this muscle is the cause of urinary incontinence, and the strengthening of it treats this potentially embarrassing and inconvenient concern.

FAQS ABOUT URINARY INCONTINENCE

The technologically advanced Emsella chair delivers electromagnetic energy to cause pelvic floor contractions that are much deeper and more frequent than can be achieved through exercise, delivering thousands of supramaximal contractions per session to strengthen the pelvic floor muscle against urinary leaks.

During contractions will feel a slight tingling sensation which builds throughout the session. This non-invasive treatment is not painful, but your BTL Emsella specialist will be on hand to answer any questions or concerns you might have before, during, and after treatment. Emsella treatment is performed while you are fully clothed, sitting comfortably in the Emsella chair and letting it do all the work for you.

Each session takes 30 minutes and every client will have a minimum of 6 treatments. We usually recommend that all 6 treatments be completed over the space of 2 weeks.

Emsella Pelvic Floor Therapy is designed for women struggling with urinary incontinence – if that’s you, this treatment is a good choice. Before your treatment we will discuss your medical history to make sure you are suitable for treatment as there are a few medical exemptions, including pregnant women and those with inorganic implants such as pacemakers.

Emsella significantly speeds up the process of strengthening a muscle. Your pelvic floor muscle will become increasingly stronger over several weeks, with optimal results achieved after around 6 months. If demands on your time make it hard to find a moment for daily pelvic floor exercises and incontinence begins to return, you can return to the clinic for maintenance treatments.
