A bit of sunshine and some fresh air is something we all enjoy and while a dose of Vitamin D can be good for us, the suns powerful UV rays can be damaging to the skin so we asked aesthetic therapist and surgical coordinator Chloe to give us a quick guide to being safe in the Sun!


What does SPF mean?

Sun protection factor is a relative measure of how long a sunscreen will protect you from UVA and UVB damage. UVB rays tend to damage the epidermis the skin’s outer layers, which can cause sunburn and in some cases cause skin cancer. UVA rays have higher wavelengths, but lower energy level, UVA rays penetrate farther into skin than UVB rays, steadily destroying key substances that break down skins firmness and elasticity.


Should I wear sun Protection indoors?

Though it’s not commonly known, your skin should be protected every day, even if you’re indoors all day. UV rays can also enter rooms and penetrate windows,even more so if your windows are open during the day, so don’t be fooled into thinking that if you’re inside for a large part of the day that you should be exempt from the rule of wearing SPF every day. Plus, it’s likely you’ll leave the house at some point and be exposed to UV rays, all of which can cause damage if you’re not properly protected.”
