Mr Darren Patten
Mr Darren Patten is a Surgeon completing his surgical training in North East London. He graduated from Imperial College London in 2008 and trained in the Oxford and London Deaneries. Mr Patten also has a BSc in Surgery and Anaesthesia, and is the author of “Single best answers in surgery” (the first edition was written when he was a final year medical student).
In addition to his work as a Surgeon, Mr Patten remains active in research and has presented internationally, as well as having several peer-reviewed publications. In 2017 Mr Patten, as part of his academic training, completed his PhD in cancer epigenetics (funded by the prestigious Wellcome Trust). His PhD research went on to be published in the Nature journals.
His specialist interest is in Breast Oncoplastic and Endocrine surgery and he looks forward to completing his subspecialty training in this area. Mr Patten has always had a keen interest in the skin, as a medical student he published educational articles on acne and treatment of acne scarring. He has also spent 7 years performing minor operations for Dermatology services. In addition, Mr Patten has completed a course in Botox and filler administration.
Mr Patten’s NHS work is currently based at Whipps Cross University Hospital, where he works as a Surgical Registrar. His job is divided into managing patients with emergency and elective general surgical conditions. He enjoys working with other healthcare professionals and has a passion for teaching.
