How does EVLA varicose vein removal work? EVLA is a minimally invasive procedure where laser energy is delivered to the faulty vein, causing it to close. There are many veins in the leg. So, after treatment, the body simply re-routes blood-flow through other healthy veins.
What’s involved in the EVLA varicose vein removal procedure?
An average EVLA procedure takes 60 minutes. All procedures are performed in our fully equipped minor surgery theatre using a local anaesthetic. The doctor will insert a thin laser fibre through a sheath into the faulty vein. The laser light will then be emitted through the fibre. As the thermal laser energy is administered, the vein will close from the inside. Only minimal discomfort, if any, is experienced. Support stockings or tights will be worn on the legs for 8 -10 days.
How soon will I be able to resume normal activities?
Normal activities can be resumed immediately after EVLA treatment, with the exception of rigorous exercise.
